Asheville is not perfect. We covered the things that might be seen as negatives or could be missing for some people. Read all about them in this post. With so many people moving here, though, there have to be some excellent positives.  Here’s a quick breakdown of things that make this city a great destination to visit and a wonderful place to live.

Neighborly Community

This Southern mid-sized town is very neighborly. Despite varying backgrounds, political views, and ages, Asheville can have a strong sense of community throughout its neighborhoods.

Artsy Vibes

Western North Carolina is rich in art. Creativity is abundant in Asheville, apparent in its people, artists, and residents, as well as in local galleries, museums, schools, and more. High-brow, low-brow, traditional, or contemporary--art is everywhere.

Holistic and Mindful Practices

In this town, we practice yoga, holistic medicine, and meditation. People are more open to holistic medicine, which in Asheville can be aligned with traditional folk medicine and more mindful health practices. The surrounding mountains and forests create a peaceful environment that provides more meditative moments and a mindful life.

The Great Outdoors

Asheville sits in a bowl within the Blue Ridge Mountains. Every direction holds a new outdoor adventure. Go for a hike or bike ride in Pisgah National Forest. Drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Paddle the French Broad River. The options are endless!

Mild Seasons

Typically, the summer days are not sweltering, and the evenings are cooler. Winter temperatures are mild, and the area sees very little snow. Spring brings a beautiful display of flowers, and Fall is a breathtaking show of color foliage.

Medical Options

Mission Hospital is the largest hospital in the region. Despite recent controversies, it has satellite offices throughout Western North Carolina, making it one of (if not THE) most visited facilities. There are, however, two other fantastic medical providers in the Asheville area. Advent Health (Fletcher) and Pardee Health Care (Hendersonville) are hospitals just south of the city. They provide excellent medical care, and they have satellite doctor offices and specialty facilities.

Education

What sort of education are you looking for? There are a variety of education options for all ages. Children can go to public or private schools. There are charter schools and nature-based schools. Homeschooling is an option that is often chosen. Community colleges, universities, and craft schools are just some of the continuing education options.
